Go Forth and Explore

Iconic, historic and dynamic, Scotland’s Forth Bridges are a wonder of the modern world. Towering side by side over the Firth of Forth, these structures represent the pinnacle of engineering from three centuries.Go Forth and Explore is a location based mobile application developed using archival photographic content from the National Records of Scotland & other sources. The Centre for Digital Documentation and Visualisation LLP (a partnership between Historic Environment Scotland and The Glasgow School of Art) has worked with Transport Scotland and other partners to digitally document the bridges over the Forth, using cutting-edge laser scanning technologies and 360° panoramic photography. The 3D laser scan data was developed into photorealistic virtual 3D models of the Bridges and further extended into Educational materials for use by Scottish schools in a series of digital learning applications. The app is part of a project carried out for;• Education• Conservation• Interpretation• AccessibilityView archival images based on your location alongside the Forth Bridges.
