Explore the lost Atlantis of South Carolina with this free GPS enabled Smartphone app.In 1930, the world's largest earthen dam and lake were completed just west of Columbia, South Carolina. In a short period of time, 11 communities went underwater. Homes, schools, churches, and almost 200 cemeteries, vanished under the deep waters of the new Lake Murray. Buildings, vehicles, bridges, and tombstones, are waiting for you to pass over them and, once again, be recognized. The "Under Lake Murray" pho
ne app is loaded with historical facts about these lost and forgotten places. Using the same techniques and technology that located the lost Broad River Confederate Bridge and pontoon crossing of General Sherman's troops just outside of Columbia, SC in 1865, and the location of the lost Colonial Village of Granby... over 125 historical locations have been pinpointed under Lake Murray and they are waiting to be rediscovered in the palm of your hand. Another 70 underwater structures sites/locations (homes, bridges, schools, and churches) are also included under a new "ruins" mode. These points include an approximate depth for those that dare to dive. These "ruin" points were recorded in 1929 just before the Lake flooded and are very accurate. Let this smartphone app guide you to these Lake Murray spots where your phone will automatically began to explain what lies beneath you. If you don't have a boat, just use the interactive mode and select points of interest from the on-screen Lake Murray map or take the new animated demo tour. For those that like to explore underwater, please use the "Contact" feature of the phone app to send your own underwater points of interest so other users of this app can also visit these sites. And, if you like to fish, be sure to check out the "Fishing" mode which has dozens of Lake Murray fish attractors, fishing holes, and boat ramp locations.Note: The historical data for "Under Lake Murray" is still being loaded and will always be a work in progress.
