Divorce Community is designed to connect real people, experiencing or anticipating the difficulties and real problems surrounding divorce. Everyone knows that the divorce process can be absolutely brutal—in can be emotionally draining, financially destructive, and spiritually devastating…but it doesn’t have to be that way! Divorce Community was originated by divorce lawyers, who have seen and experienced just about every aspect of divorce, both personally and professionally. Having the backgr
ound of seeing many years of ugly divorces, and realizing what an emotional toll divorce takes on people is what inspired the creation of Divorce Community. Most people hire legal counsel to navigate them through the divorce process; however, having an experienced divorce lawyer is not all people need! With all due respect to attorneys (and the legal profession in general), they rarely, if ever, address a lot of the emotional aspects of divorce, which are often the most difficult to endure and overcome. Even if divorce attorneys were willing and/or able to provide such additional and much needed services and support to their clients, the time it would take them to do so would be cost-prohibitive for their clients. In addition to finding a competent divorce lawyer to represent you, it is also important to try to surround yourself with positive people—to seek support from family and friends. But again, having a good lawyer and supportive family and friends is not always enough. Divorce Community fills in the gaps, allowing its members to feel supported, encouraged and empowered. At the same time, the community members feel protected by anonymity (if they so choose), which is especially important for those who find it difficult to talk to friends or family members about their experiences, fearing that they will be judged or blamed. Divorce Community connects people who are dealing with divorce-related issues starting from the first mentioning of ending a marriage, throughout the legal process, up through and including all aspects of life after divorce (whether that be issues with co-parenting, or merely learning to embrace single life once the legal process is over). The community serves people in a number of ways. First, is a great resource, providing various articles, guidelines, tips and suggestions on positive and unique ways of dealing with specific issues surrounding divorce. Second, it allows people to connect with others in similar situations. It provides a forum for people to be heard and understood during some of life's most difficult challenges. Connecting with others in the community offers relief in the realization that you are not alone. It also offers a great opportunity to help others by sharing your unique perspectives and experiences, allowing individuals to take a break from their own problems for a moment and help someone else…which can be exceptionally rewarding. Finally, and maybe most importantly, the community offers support and encouragement from others in similar situations, empowering one another to work through problems, minimize conflict, and soar into the next best stage in life. In addition to covering all issues relating to the legal process of divorce, this support group will focus on all important issues that arise out of divorce. Divorce Community topics range from custody and visitation, child support and college expenses, spousal support, affairs and abusive relationships, issues involving grandparents and step-parents, dating and new relationships, and a variety of both simple and complex financial issues. These topics, and the emotions that they cause, are very personal, often heart-wrenching.
